Hey all,

I am looking to upgrade my speakers. I have a 2000 z3 w/ the harman kardon setup. It sounds as if my speakers on the driver's side have blown, including the kick panel, and at least one or the other but possibly both the midrange and tweeter on the door. The sub between the seats have also gone out. I haven't been able to find any speaker setup that will go with stock wiring, head unit, and amp. I have gone to cartoys, best buy, circuit city, tweeters; no solution it seems with the speaker setups they have in stock, and I keep hearing something about crossover complications and rewiring, which all leads to over $1000 in expense.

Are they just not understanding what they are working with, because none of their computer databases have the specs for the harman/kardon setup? Is finding replacement speakers for the z3 really a difficult problem?

The only kit I've seen for direct/stock replacement of the speakers has been the BSW stage 1 package, http://www.bavariansoundwerks.com/product.php/II=384/tb=6/_cid=/#tabs.

Any suggestions would help, as I'm clueless as where to start, but I especially would not like to spend a hefty amount of money. Looking to start soon, as the buzzing and so on are quite annoying. And if any knows of the BSW speaker packages and the quality of their speaker setups, please let me know before I purchase. Thanks plenty in advance for all those that reply.

Speakers

Go to the attached article at MZ3.net - lots of good sterio information here:

http://www.mz3.net/articles/069.html

Any aftermarket speakers are fine as long as they fit and can reproduce the frequencies sent to them byt the amp/crossover. I just blew my little 3" rear speakers and think I found a good replacement at:

http://www.infinitecaraudio.com/cgi-bin/icastore.cgi?user_action=detail&catalogno=CSX353

They are the only 3.5" speakers I could find with a grill and the 3" cut-out works for them. While I'm at it I went ahead and ordered a pair of Infinity 51/4" Kappa's for the front.

If you've got that many speakers out and problems you may want to just start over.

The stuff your looking at from BSW looks way over priced to me.

i just found the BSW site through another source and i thought the same thing, a little $teep? if you'd be happy with the system just being operationalor a smidge better and you're OK with the prices, it would save you from doing the whole system. i just changed my head unit out to a Panasonic and put a Kenwood powered sub between the seats, dramatic difference even with some blown/inop speakers.
